AUSTRALIAN SERVICES UNION SUPPORTS INDUSTRIAL LAW CHANGES

The Australian Services Union (ASU) has welcomed the release of the Final Report of the Ministerial Review of the State Industrial Relation System.

The ASU is pleased to see the state government will progress laws, which will create more certainty around local government industrial relations jurisdiction.

The changes will see more than 20,000 local government workers in WA become subject to West Australian laws rather than be controlled by Canberra.

ASU Branch Secretary Wayne Wood said ASU is the only union that has been campaigning for these changes to local government for some time and that the announcement is a win for local government workers.

“The WA Industrial Relations system is far superior to the Federal Fair Work system. These changes will provide better protection for our members working in local government.

“This has been an ongoing issue for many years and I commend the Minister for Industrial Relations Bill Johnston for providing certainty for these workers,” Mr Wood said.
