Our union is driven by the concerns of members and the goal is to improve their working lives by building our bargaining power at the workplace and in each industry sector.
Our network of more than 6000 delegates across Australia is the key to achieving this.
Your role as a Delegate
In brief you should:-
- Ensure members get their rights under relevant awards, agreements and laws;
- Recruit and organise in your workplace, and keep members well informed about our union;
- Represent our union and members in local discussions and negotiations with the employer, working with your Organsier to progress unresolved issues;
- Keep our union up to date with what is happening in your workplace and industry;
- Spread the union message to non unionists.
What do Delegates do?
Here are some of the things HSU Delegates do regularly. Ask yourself which are most relevant to me at the moment?
- Signing up new members;
- Building workplace organisation, encouraging other members to become involved;
- Keeping our Organiser informed of what is happening at work;
- Working in committees and networking;
- Conducting union meetings;
- Representing individual members to management;
- Representing the collective view of members to management.
