ASU Qantas Delegates met with Perth Administration in the regular JCC on Thursday December 11th. The JCC seeks to resolve urgent and important issues affecting large numbers of our members.
Our Delegates devote their own time, or are taken from the workplace in order to assist members, through proper process, to resolve their issues. We take it seriously. We believe that the Perth Administration of QANTAS does not.
On Thursday, delegates walked out of the meeting in disgust and discussed the effect the prevarication by QANTAS was having on our members. Delegates were furious at being treated so shabbily! They were angry that members' concerns and the people bringing them to the table were not given the credibility they deserved. We expect members' representatives to be treated with respect and to have their issues treated seriously!
When delegates returned to the table they issued a list of issues, that they required a written response to by Thursday, close of business, December 18th.
This is what they require:
- Indicators for sick leave and overtime for the 8 hour roster to be presented to the ASU.
- Progression training for full time and Job Sharers.
- Conversions from Part Time to Full Time based on hours worked.
- Matters raised in the first meeting to be taken into account by the Rostering Committee which needs to meet fortnightly, and that issues raised by members who are distressed by the roster, to be taken into account. This includes the OHS and family needs of our members.
- 20/30 hour rosters. After 112 responses to the survey, nothing has been done about it.
- Client airline rosters for part time.
- Proper Job Descriptions for “Team Leader” positions so that Perth can have some equivalency with Sydney.
- Signage about air rage. We will no longer tolerate our members being abused by customers. We expect all staff in supervisory positions to be trained to deal with distressed staff that have been abused. We expect also that there is a proper reporting and debriefing process put in place. If QANTAS has not provided signage within one month, then the ASU will put up posters. If they are taken down, we will put up more.
