Session 1 - Introduction for Delegates

Delegates of the Health Services Union represent our union at the workplace.

You are the first point of contact for members with problems or difficulties, or who simply want information.

To carry out these important tasks, you have access to the professional advice and information that our officials and staff provide.

In the present industrial climate you have another essential function - to recruit new members and to build an effective worksite organisation.

Training on line is a guide designed to provide you with ideas about how you can go about this task. Discuss these ideas with your workmates and with your Organiser.

The suggestions in the guide have been tried and found successful by other unionists. Your Organiser and our offices will give you all the support we can.

Our union also conducts training courses on a range of topics to meet the needs of members. These courses are designed to help you build your skills, confidence and knowledge as well as being able to network with other members and delegates to share ideas and experiences.

It is a good idea to attend these courses and join with your fellow members in our joint efforts to strengthen our union.

A strong workplace and a strong union are essential for the wellbeing of our members in this time of uncertainty and change. Let us continue to work together to achieve both.
